It can be tricky finding funding for your community group or organisation but there’s lot of support available in Aberdeenshire to help you access funding opportunities.

Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action and the Rural Area Partnerships can help community groups and organisations, social enterprises and other bodies to identify and access funding opportunities.

VCSE Strength Checker

The VCSE Strength Checker is a free online tool, produced by the Cabinet Office and Big Lottery Fund, designed to help voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to improve and develop their resilience. The Checker will provide the organisation with a personalised report highlighting their key strengths and areas for improvement and signpost organisations to other sources of support –

Local Community Planning Groups

Local Community Planning Groups have a small annual budget, which local groups and organisations can apply to – for more information please contact your Local Community Planning Officers.

Area Committees

The six Local Area Committees have an annual budget (previously known as the Area Top-Up Fund) which community groups and organisations can apply to for funding.

LEADER funding

The 2015-2020 LEADER funding programme launched in October 2015. The £5million programme, funded by the Scottish Government and EU, is available to support community-led projects and other development activities across Aberdeenshire.

Funding is allocated by an independent Local Action Group (LAG) comprised of representatives from businesses, public sector and third sector organisations.

The North Aberdeenshire programme will allocate £3.3m of the funding to projects in Banff and Buchan, Buchan and Formartine – to find out more visit

The South Aberdeenshire programme will allocate £2.8m of the funding to projects in Garioch, Marr and Kincardine and Mearns – to find out more visit

Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Integrated Care Fund

The Scottish Government have provided Health and Social Care Partnerships with short-term funding to support the integration of Health and Social Care services across Scotland. Organisations can apply to the Integrated Care Fund for funding to support initiatives that focus on prevention, early intervention and care and support for older people or those with long-term health conditions. National Funding Programmes

CashBack for Communities

CashBack for Communities is a Scottish Government programme which takes funds recovered from the proceeds of crime and invests them into free activities and programmes for young people across Scotland. Since 2008, £75million has been recovered under the Proceeds of Crime Act and committed to the CashBack programme.

The Coastal Communities Fund

The Coastal Communities Fund aims to encourage the economic development of coastal communities by awarding funds to create sustainable economic growth and jobs. Since 2012 £119 million has been allocated to 218 organisations.

The Coastal Communities Fund has been extended until 2020/21, with another £90million in funding available from 2017/18.
