Aberdeenshire successful in bid for jobs fund

25th January 2010

Aberdeenshire Community Planning Partnership has been successful in itsfuture_jobs_fund.jpg bid to the Future Jobs Fund allowing for up to 23 jobs to be created for people aged between 18 and 25.

Aberdeenshire Council has been awarded £149,500 from the fund.

Through additional sources of funding Aberdeenshire Council and the partner organisations have secured an additional grant total of £141,100 from the LEADER fund and the Fairer Scotland Fund, giving an overall total of £289,600 for the programme.

The main aim of the fund is to identify a range of employment opportunities for young people who may find it harder to find suitable employment opportunities and to develop their skills and knowledge to improve future employability.

A range of employment opportunities are being identified across Aberdeenshire through the development of the partnership group.

Organisations involved in the scheme are:

  • Aberdeenshire Council
  • Aberdeen Foyer
  • Community Food Initiatives North East
  • BRIDGE (CVS)
  • Buchan Dial-a-Community-Bus
  • SCARF
  • Gordon Rural Action

Anne Robertson, Leader of Aberdeenshire Council, said: “Accessing employment and training opportunities can be challenging for people who live in a large rural area such as Aberdeenshire.

“These posts will improve the opportunities for young people and help them to find permanent employment in the future.

“The scheme will break down barriers that prevent young people from finding suitable long-term work, ensuring Aberdeenshire will have a skilled workforce for the future.”

Ken Milroy, chief executive of Aberdeen Foyer, said: “The transition from school into further education, training and work can for some young people be a real challenge.

“We are delighted that this funding has been awarded, which will take forward a new initiative working with all the partners involved to provide a clear pathway for young people to make the transition into employment.”

The programme will be rolled out over three months, with a group of young people being placed in a post each month.  The first group will be placed in February, the second in March and the final group in April, with each post lasting for 12 months.
