Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future (ACSEF) works to the following strategic priorities contained within the economic manifesto

  • Deliver an integrated transport network
  • Maximise our intellectual capital
  • Deliver City Centre redevelopment
  • Internationalise the oil and gas industry
  • Attract and develop skilled people
  • Improve the efficiency of planning decision making
  • Aberdeen City and Shire as the location of choice for company Headquarters

A set of actions related to these priorities have been included in the ACSEF business plan.

The remaining priority is to place Aberdeen City and Shire at the top of the quality of life league table. Scottish Enterprise has commissioned research to measure and benchmark Aberdeen City and Shire’s quality of life. The key objective is to position the region’s quality of life in a global context allowing comparison with other regions and with the ability to track this through time. This will enable the development of an aspiring target to improve Aberdeen City and Shire’s Quality of Life position. The research will be completed mid-March.

ACSEF will continue to develop the key sectors within the region - Energy, Food and Drink, Life Sciences, and Tourism – alongside the strategic priorities detailed in the economic manifesto.

The Rural Aberdeenshire LAG submitted its bid for LEADER funding in the first round of applications in November 2007. The group was successful and was awarded £3.24 million.

A strategy has been prepared for the development and review of flexible employment land and workspace.

In terms of tourism, the North East Scotland Tourism Partnership (NESTOUR) strategy was revised, while the Banff Marina and feasibility work into the creation of a Royal Deeside resort location are both progressing.

Community Enterprise is encouraged through the development of a scheme to support bulk procurement of Registered Social Landlord to encompass a major new training programme aligned to the construction industry.
