Community Action Plans
Marr Area Partnership (MAP) have been working on behalf of the Marr Local Community Planning Group to support communities that want to develop their own Community Action Plans.
MAP can work with communities of all sizes on these plans adapting the process and timescale according to the size of the community. MAP have worked with Banchory, Ballater, Aboyne and Tarland and are currently working with developing a process with Glenbuchat a small rural community in Strathdon. Tarland Community Composting Project
The Tarland Community Composting scheme, is a great example of a community led environmental project. It is a non-profit making, volunteer-led service run by the Tarland
Development Group. Tarland Community Action Plan identified the need for a community composting scheme and the Marr Local Community Planning Group were able to provide a quick win grant of £2000 to help set it up. The group also secured £1000 from the Initiative Grant Scheme (IGS), funded by the Marr Area Committee and administered by the Marr Area Partnership.
For an annual fee of £10, garden waste will be collected fortnightly from people's homes during the 2010 gardening season. The first collection was held on Saturday 24th April and Kate Redpath, the Community Composting co-ordinator, said
"the Development Group are delighted with the initial uptake for the scheme, and with the number of people volunteering to help".
The whole scheme depends on the group of enthusiastic volunteers who are collecting the garden waste and providing a service to their community. More information on Tarland Community Composting can be found on the Tarland and Cromar Community web site (www.tarland.org).
Public Entertainment Licence (PEL) Project
The Marr Local Community Planning Group was successful in obtaining funding of £6,000 from the Shell Small Grants Scheme. The funding enabled a project team to identify the training needs required for and the simplification of the Public Entertainment Licence (PEL), which has relevance to many agencies, service departments within the Council and community groups across the area of Aberdeenshire.
The project sets out to assess how agencies and the public sector can ensure a simple, accessible and transparent route is in place to enable communities to monitor and demonstrate the use of best practice in their management of events and projects.
The Your Hall Manual is availible from the Marr Area Partnership website.
Project Area
A pilot project, within the area of Upper Deeside, commenced in April 2007.

- To make training programmes more dynamic and relevant with outcomes more targeted to a systemised approach customised to individual communities needs.
- Explore a template for community groups to use to progressively assess how they address statutory measures and good practice guidelines within their day to day business.
- Put in place a means of monitoring and evaluating the impact on communities.
