First six community profiles unveiled

25th April 2008

Community Profiles for Banchory, Cruden Bay, Kemnay, Newburgh, Portlethen and Portsoy have been published.

Community Profiles have been produced to provide a description of the community so that residents have some accurate facts and figures and some more subjective information about their community. The facts and figures have been provided by Aberdeenshire Council’s Planning Information and Research section. Other information was provided by people who live or work in the area. Hopefully residents will be able to recognise and connect with the community as described.

It is important to stress that the information in this Community Profile is intended to be a snapshot of the community at a point in time and not a complete picture. Links to other websites are included for anyone who wishes to extend the study.

The community profile is a handy resource for a community about to undertake a needs assessment. It provides the information required to set the context for community discussions to take place.

I live in Stonehaven and I have based some initial comments on the Banchory document.

As one of the aims of the document is to be support for funding applications then I suggest you review the lottery application forms.

1 The age group 0 - 15 is too large. 0 - 5 gives the pre-school age.

2 There is no breakldown on working parents - one or both

3 The family composition does not address those cohabitting.

4 A new table could list families as single parent, parents both working, child with childminder or daily care.

5 Cultural diversity to answer lottery questions of cultural background.

6 List the village halls, identify whether available for public use, capacity / number of persons, how busy in morning / afternoon / evening. How many have disabled access and facilities

7 Include a new section about needs of the community and what additional facilities people are asking for.

8 I would like to see a profile for Stonehaven completed soon.

9 How many open area playgrounds and facilities are available

10 Include details of public parks. size, facilities, public toilets.

Thanks for the comments. We will take on board what you have said and look at undertaking a review of the process in the future.
