Formartine - Area Profile

Overview
Formartine has a growing population many of whom are located in the key settlements of Ellon (9,465), Turriff (4,647), Oldmeldrum (1,981), Balmedie (1,909) and Newburgh (1,371). Smaller villages such as Fyvie, Cumniestown, Tarves and Potterton are dotted around its undulating landscape with much of its coast covered in sandy beaches and dune systems.

Formartine is heavily integrated with the Aberdeen economy and considerable proportions of the working population in Balmedie (71%) and Ellon (49%) commute to Aberdeen. However, in the north there is a more rural economy based on tourism, agriculture and local services.
